A local company that's been providing safe rides for drunk drivers is being questioned about its business practices.
There are several complaints directed at Safe Riders Inc. for the way it charges customers for a ride home.
Kimberly Davis says she was trying to do the responsible thing by arranging for a ride home, so that she and her husband wouldn't have to drive home drunk from a holiday party.
So she made a reservation with Safe Riders Inc., a designated driving service that she's used in the past with no problems---until now.
Safe Riders charged her debit card even though she and her husband paid the driver in cash.
"They specifically said they will not charge our debit card, they only need it for reservation purposes," says Davis.
The Davis' aren't the only ones complaining. Kimberly posted a message to her facebook page and dozens of her friends replied that the same thing had happened to them.
The Better Business Bureau says customers have filed 9 disputes against the company this year.
According to the bureau, Safe Riders Inc. has not replied to those complaints.
They did resolve a complaint in 2011.
"Currently Safe Riders Inc. has an "F" with the Better Business Bureau, due to their market place behavior, says Denise Groene, State Director.
KWCH 12 reached out to all of the addresses listed for Safe Riders Inc. One was an abandoned home on North Market street and another was an apartment complex on 27th and Amidon.
The Better Business Bureau says use caution if you're looking to do business with Safe Riders. But Kimberly Davis says just find another ride home.
"I got home safe and that's what I called them for, it's not about the money but it's about the fact that they took my money when they weren't supposed to," she says.
KWCH 12 made several attempts to contact the owner of Safe Riders Inc.
We did not get a return call.
Eyewitness News Reporter Sia Nyorkor spoke with a man who identified himself as a dispatcher with Safe Riders. He had no comment.
The Better Business Bureau bases their grades on several factors. It tells KWCH 12 if Safe Riders Inc. resolves its disputes in a timely manner, it can raise the grade from an "F."
