Travelers in Wichita will soon have more options.

Southwest and Airtran have announced the airlines finalized the connection and customers can begin purchasing itineraries.

Southwest Airlines first announced plans to come to the Air Capital last winter. Flyers were encouraged by the news.

"I think as a frequent business traveler it's really good for bringing rates down," Kris Mumbower said. "They will be a lot more competition and a lot more places that you can connect to, which has been limited in the last few years."

Both airlines are hoping to offer flyers more itineraries, more destinations and lower fares.

While many believe the connections will drum up news business for Wichita, there are some travelers who aren't happy with the changes.

"They announced what schedules they were going to keep, they also announced they were vacating the Atlanta route, that was incredulous to me, I couldn't believe they had done that. I talked to my travel agent last week and she says everythin has gone up.  It will double," said one traveler.

Southwest Airlines will officially begin service out of Wichita in early June. Customers can begin purchasing itineraries for travel as early as mid-April.

The new connection will have a combined 97 destinations for Wichita travelers to choose from.
