(EL DORADO, Kan.)—
"Lindsey Giovinazzo gave no consideration for my mother's precious life. She's a cold blooded killer." Family members break down in court as they address their mother's killer. Lindsey Giovinazzo admitted she killed 69-year-old Loyce Cody because she and her boyfriend wanted to steal from her. Many of Cody's family members were in court Thursday to hear the judge sentence Giovinazzo to 25 years in prison.
Before the sentence was read, they made sure Giovinazzo heard about the heartache she's caused. "She was a very beautiful woman as you can see," said Cody's daughter Lori Daly.
Cody was murdered in her home last year. During the sentencing of her killer, Cody's family described life without her. "The comfort and safety of knowing that my mom was always there has been shattered. We will never have the strength and assurance that she once provided," Daly said.
Cody had five children, including a daughter with extreme special needs. That daughter was Cody's inspiration to become a special education teacher later in life. "Her students do not understand why Mrs. Cody is not in the classroom. Their parents struggle to provide comfort as they grieve their loss as well."
Cody had nine grandchildren. One of her grandson, Jacob Hoyt is also charged with her murder. He will go to trial in January.
