A gay rights group is challenging the residency of a Hutchinson lawmaker.

Rep. Jan Pauls says she moved into a former church her family owns so she can stay in District 102. Pauls spoke to Eyewitness News about her move and the boundary changes that caused it earlier this week.

"I have to confess, I have not moved the cat over yet. We're kinda gradually moving things."

Pauls' former home is only a few miles away. However, a new map approved by a court, puts it outside of District 102 by several blocks.

The Kansas Equality Coalition has submitted an objection to the secretary of state's office. Eexecutive Director Tom Witt questions whether Pauls has actually moved into the church.

The coalition has criticized Pauls over her positions on social issues.

A state board expects to review the objection next week.
