ARKANSAS CITY, Kan. -

One man is dead, another is under arrest for involuntary manslaughter after an overnight disturbance in Ark City.

Police say a woman came out of the bathroom about 4 Sunday morning to find her estranged husband, Leonard Daniels, 44. They then began to fight.

Cameron M. Budd, a 23-year-old friend of the woman's, stabbed Daniels in the back during the fight. Investigators say Daniels then fired several shots at Budd, grazing him once.

The woman in the home took her 12-year-old daughter to the neighbors home to call 911.

Neighbors say it's not the first time the couple had fought at the home.

"He comes over all the time when he gets out of jail and starts problems," said Neighbor Christy Merry.

On May 21st, officers arrested Daniels when he barricaded himself in the home after a fight with his estranged wife. The court told Daniels to stay away from the home.

Budd was not at the home when officers arrived. He later went to the Ark City Police Department and told them about what happened. Officers arrested Budd on a charge of involuntary manslaughter.

Daniels was found lying in the street. He was taken to South Central Regional Medical Center, but later died.

"He was bloody real bad around the chest area," said Neighbor Stephen Sanders. "I did not want to come down and find out what is going on so instead I called 911."

Merry feels Budd did the right thing.

"He probably just had to do what he had to do at the time," Merry said. "I'm sure she had told him everything that was going on, so when he saw him he was probably scared and freaking out. I know I would be."

Budd is expected to make his first appearance in court sometime this week.
