Jenn Bates is a member of the Eyewitness Sports team. In July of 2014, she was honored with being named one of Wichita's most influential people in sports.
Before coming to Wichita in 2008, Jenn reported for KNDU in Kennewick, WA.
Jenn started her career in broadcasting as a news and sports reporter for AM850 in Gainesville, Florida. She was also a news reporter, sports reporter and eventual sports director at WUFT in Gainesville. Jenn also covered Florida Gators football and basketball for the sports magazine show GatorZone.
She covered the Gainesville area for three years then moved to the complete opposite side of the country to work for KNDU in Washington State. There she covered sports in Washington and Oregon.
Jenn graduated from the University of Florida in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Telecommunication and is originally from Pensacola, Fl.
Growing up with two older brothers and a mom obsessed with baseball, Jenn’s love of sports started at an early age. “I knew I wanted to be in broadcasting since I was 5 years old, and being a sports reporter seemed like a perfect fit for me. If I wasn’t a sports reporter I would still be watching sports non-stop, so why not get paid to do it?”
In her spare time Jenn enjoys power lifting, perfecting her Spanish, and reading whatever good book she can get her hands on (that usually means anything Chuck Palahniuk, John Feinstein or Barbara Kingsolver. Wally Lamb is excellent too. The list is extensive actually).
Jenn has settled into Wichita nicely and is always open to any and all story ideas!
