Brian has had a love for covering Breaking News, weather, and sports since he was in grade school. He recorded a sports update on his parents’ phone answering machine – with scores, and breaking news daily.
Brian took that love for the media to The Pennsylvania State University where he accepted an internship with WJET-TV in Erie, Pennsylvania.
After just two months of covering news, he was hired as a part-time photographer before working his way up to a position on the assignment desk, and eventually the 6pm and 11pm producer. Brian then accepted a job as Executive Producer, and later Assistant News Director at WVLT-TV in Knoxville, Tennessee, before heading west to the CBS Owned and Operated station in Sacramento, California.
He joined KWCH as News Director in April, 2013.
How much of a news junkie is Brian?
He actually spent some time working for WJET-TV as the overnight photographer free-of-charge, spending most of that time hanging around at the ambulance dispatch center. Operators would dispatch him to a scene at the same time they dispatched the ambulance so he could follow it in. It led to a LOT of exclusive video.
Brian actually helped break the story about the University of Tennessee’s new football coach by calling an airport control tower in Louisiana. The person who answered the phone told Brian they saw their coach, dressed in an orange tie, signing papers with UT folks.
In his spare time, Brian likes to hike and backpack. He climbed Mt. Whitney (14505’) last year. It took 18 hours to cover the 22+ miles and 6,000+ feet of elevation gain.
He’s also an aviation buff – a perfect fit for someone living in the Air Capital of the World.
He’s also looking to get more involved in the community.
