What the heck is GRAUPEL?  According to Storm Team 12 meteorologist Mark Larson, graupel refers to precipitation that forms when super-cooled droplets of water are collected and freeze on a falling snowflake, forming a 2–5 mm balls.  This is different from hail or sleet, which are just frozen precipitation.  Graupel pellets are more like stryofoam balls.
