Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department.  Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets. 

These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.

Resident confronts burglar…
5:30 am
A 29/m says someone broke into his home in the 900 block of N. Broadway.  The intruder forced his way in through an upstairs bedroom window by removing the window A/C unit.  The 29/m heard the burglar as he was stealing things and confronted him.  The burglar tried to leave and swung a horseshoe at the resident, but missed.  The resident went back into the house, the burglar followed, the resident picked up a pair of shears for protection and the burglar decided to leave...as he was trying to run outside, he ran into the screen door - damaging it - and fell to the ground.  The resident told him to stay on the ground until police arrived.  Cops showed up, recovered the stolen property and hauled the burglar off to jail.  Three others were asleep in the home when the break-in occurred.  No one was hurt.

Former tenant helps herself…

A 42/m says a former tenant in the 5800 block of E. Skinner left the house and took with her a refrigerator and four sets of curtains and curtain rods.

Smokin’ in the boys’ room…

A 45/m reports seeing someone smoking cigarettes in the school bathroom in the 700 block of W. 33rd S.  The youngster was ticketed for possession of tobacco.  Two cigarettes were submitted to police.

Child abuse case…
1:26 pm
An officer called in a possible case of child abuse off a 1-year-old boy.  The child was taken to Wesley Medical Center for treatment.  The child was taken into protective custody.  There is no mention of an arrest or location.

Furious customer…

A 27/f says she was working at a business in the 1500 block of S. Oliver when a female customer started calling her derogatory names and saying she doesn’t know how to do her job. The woman asked the customer to leave, but the customer asked her “what she was going to do about it” and started throwing jewelry around.  Security was called in and the customer then showed the clerk spit in her mouth and threatened to spit on her.  She continued calling her names and threatening bodily harm.  No one was hurt.

Barking dogs…

An 80/f in the 7000 block of E. Zimmerly says her neighbor’s dogs bark continuously - especially when he goes out of town for the weekend and leaves the dogs in a pen in his backyard.  The woman says she’s lived there for 21 years and the neighbor has been there for 18 years.  She says there were no problems until he got the dogs.  Police asked the man about the dogs...eh said his are not the only ones barking in the neighborhood.
