Free child identification kits will be available at upcoming events in Wichita and Topeka.

The Kansas attorney general's office, in partnership with Cox Communications, will offer the kits, which allow parents to keep a child's fingerprints, height, weight and a current photo on hand. This information can be used by law enforcement officials to more quickly locate a child if he or she goes missing.

"Taking a few minutes to plan ahead and discuss safety measures with your children can help keep them safe from harm," Derek Schmidt said in a release. "Keeping an identification kit with your children's current information is one easy step that can help them stay safe."

The identification kits will be available in Topeka at Westridge Mall, outside of the Old Navy store, on Saturday, May 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In Wichita, kits will be available at the Cox Kids' Corner at Riverfest, May 30 through June 7.

More information on children's safety, including Internet safety, the Amber Alert program and recent recalls, is available on the attorney general's website at www.ag.ks.gov.
