An Amber Alert for a missing Texas teenager believed to be in the Kansas City area has been cancelled.
An alert for Nomei "Mimi" Velazquez, 15, was issued Tuesday night because authorities said her cell phone pinged near Lenexa on I-35.
Mark Malick, Kansas Bureau of Investigation spokesman, said the Amber Alert was canceled because the phone ping may have been read wrong.
"We received information from Texas around 8 this morning the information was incorrect," Malick said. "We don't know whether the coordinates or data input was wrong."
A new ping brought the search to the Lubbock area Wednesday. Nacogdoches County officials confirmed Velazquez has been located and a suspect is in the custody around 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Velazquez was found unharmed.
Amber Alerts can only be issued for kidnappings.
