ANDOVER, Kan. -

Police have arrested an Andover Central High School teacher and assistant coach on suspicion of sexual battery.

The Andover School District says Robert Gould, 51, is on administrative leave. Police say he was arrested Dec. 19 after a 19-year-old woman, home from college, reported being touched inappropriately when the suspect came to visit her at home.

Sexual battery is a misdemeanor charge. It was filed through Andover Municipal Court.

In a statement, the Andover School District said, “we take this matter very seriously and are conducting an investigation, as is the Andover Police Department.”

The district would not comment further, calling it an "active investigation and a personnel matter.”
