A Salina man has been sentenced to life in prison for beating his former girlfriend's 14-month-old son to death.
A Saline County judge sentenced Antonio "Tony" Brown Sr. Friday. Our news partners at the Salina Journal report Brown will become eligible for parole after 20 years, and if he is granted parole he will then have to serve an additional 16 years and two months for two child abuse charges and a charge of obstructing official duty.
He was convicted of first-degree murder last month in Clayden Urbanek's death. Doctors had testified that the child's injuries were some of the worst abuse they had seen.
The case was tried in Riley County on a change of venue, but sentenced in Saline County.
Brown is still awaiting trial on charges related to escaping from custody. A Saline County judge has agreed to a change of venue in that case as well.
