WICHITA, Kan. -

Rick Miller says he’s been anxious to get back out on his bike.

So he rode his motorcycle in to work Friday, despite the obstacles. City roads are still messy from the winter storm and the city’s road treatment. More than a foot of snow has fallen on Wichita area streets recently. Then city crews dropped salt and sand for 10 days straight.

Now, it’s time to clean it up since things are warming up. However, city crews aren’t expected to sweep the sand up until early next week. Until then, drivers and motorcyclists are advised to take it easy on the roads.

Dan Alefs says the warmer forecast means motorcyclists will be out - but the sand could be a challenge.

“You’ve got to give yourself extra room,” Alefs said, “because that sand is like a little marble under you. You know those tires will just roll.”
