Bimbo Bakeries USA (BBU) announced today that it will cease operations at its bakery located at 2530 Southeast Drive in Wichita, Kansas by February 24, 2014.

The bakery, which produces bread and buns and currently employs 118 associates, will shift production to other BBU bakeries in the Company's manufacturing network.

"This was a difficult decision because of the highly capable team of associates at the Wichita Bakery," said Didier Moleres, Regional Vice President of Operations for BBU's Central region. "However, after an extensive assessment, we concluded that the age of the equipment and building and the outdated level of technology make the bakery unable to compete effectively in the marketplace going forward."

These changes will not impact BBU's customer service or the availability of its fresh-baked products, which will continue to be distributed across the state.

Human resources representatives met with all affected employees and union representatives to discuss severance and other benefits, as well as resources available to assist them.

"We value and respect our associates and are working to support them during this transition," said Moleres.
