CHENEY LAKE, Kan. -

A 31-year-old man is found dead at Cheney Lake early this morning. According to a release through the Reno County Sheriff's Facebook page, Sheriff's Deputies were called to a report of a missing person at Silver Lake Road and Sand Creek Road at around 10 p.m. Sunday.

When they got there, the family of Sheldon Martin of Hutchinson stated that he had gone to the lake that morning to canoe, but hadn't returned.

The family started looking for him at around 5 p.m..  They called for help once they found his car at the lake.

The Department of Kansas Wildlife and Parks also responded to the scene and the Kansas Highway Patrol provided air support.

At around 2:30 a.m., crews found a small canoe along the shoreline in the area of Pretty Prairie and Mayfield Roads. Then, around an hour and a half later, Martin's body was found in that same area.

He was still wearing his life jacket.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death, but foul play is not suspected
