WICHITA, Kan. -

Botanica broke ground today on a new Chinese friendship garden honoring one of Wichita's sister cities. Plans for the project include two pavilions, Chinese plants, a giant mural and water features.

It's being built in honor of Wichita's friendship with Kai-feng, it's sister city in China.

Botanica's marketing director, Kristin Marlett, says it's the first of several sister city projects planned.

"Well this is just the beginning of our sister cities gardens we already have plans for a Mexican and I'm sure one for the French garden will be underway shortly."

Botanica is accepting donations to help fund the Chinese garden project. Work on the Chinese friendship garden is expected to be finished next spring.
