A four-year-old boy remains in critical condition after he was thrown from a vehicle on the turnpike in south Wichita.

The accident happened around at 10:55 a.m. on I-35 at mile marker 42.3.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said the driver of an SUV lost control when the passenger side rear tire tread blew off. The driver over-corrected, went into the right ditch and rolled the vehicle.

The boy and a 52-year-old man were hurt in the accident. The driver, a 44-year-old-woman, was not hurt.

According to KHP, both adults were wearing their seat belts, but the child was not. All three are from Houston.
