WLNS reports a man is running for city office after he was convicted of second degree murder in 1975.

Larry O'Neill is running for district Commissioner in Jackson County, Michigan.

The 56-year-old man says he is a different man than the 18-year-old who shot and killed a man 38 years ago.

WLNS reports that O' Neil said, "I'm hoping they can look at it and say okay, he was a problem child, he made a bad mistake, a bad decision and did his time for it. Maybe he can change. Maybe he has changed.”

O' Neill spend 34 years in prison. WLNS reports he got off on parole in May 2013.

O’Neill says his message to voters is a simple one, “Please don't judge me on what I was, judge me on what I am now."
