Taylor would have faced current Republican Sen. Pat Roberts and Independent candidate Greg Orman in the November 4 general election.

Taylor has yet to release an official statement regarding his withdrawal, but he did tweet from his campaign Twitter account: "Thanks to our supporters - financial, spiritual and emotional."

The current contenders in the race, Sen. Roberts and Orman, released their own statements regarding the withdrawal.

Said Sen. Roberts, "Chad Taylor’s withdrawal from the U.S. Senate race reveals a corrupt bargain between Greg Orman and national Democrats including Senator Harry Reid that disenfranchises Kansas Democrats. It makes clear what has been obvious from the start: Orman is the choice of liberal Democrats and he can no longer hide behind an independent smokescreen.

We are confident that Kansas voters will quickly see through this charade foisted on Kansas by Orman and his Democrat allies."

“This is certainly an unexpected turn of events. Chad Taylor is a committed public servant. He ran an honorable campaign and worked hard, and I wish him and his family well," said Orman.

Taylor is currently the District Attorney in Shawnee County.
