WICHITA, Kan. -

A detention deputy was treated for minor injuries after being attacked by an inmate earlier this week at the Sedgwick County Jail.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office says it happened at 12:20 pm on Sunday, August 3.

According to the Sheriff, the inmate punched the female deputy several times before she and other deputies subdued the man.

The deputy was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries and released. The inmate, identified as Steven Lloyd Frederick, was not hurt. He was charged Tuesday with one felony count of Battery of a Law Enforcement Officer.

The deputy who was attacked has been with the Sheriff's Office for seven years.
