WICHITA, Kan. -

Local authorities are warning citizens of a possible jury duty scam.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office, along with Wichita Police, are investigating several reports of scammers calling people, claiming the person has missed jury duty.

The caller is identified as a "sheriff warrant deputy." The caller tells the victim a $500 fine must be paid for failing to appear for jury duty.

Lt. David Mattingly, Sedgwick County, said the sheriff's office does not collect fines for failure to show for jury duty. Instead, a no response letter will be sent from the court. A judge may follow-up with the letter.

Anyone receiving these phone calls should not give out any personal information or make a payment.

Citizens are urged to hang up, and report the call to authorities.
