RILEY COUNTY, Kan. -

A Topeka man is hospitalized after his van struck a KDOT mower outside of Manhattan.

It happened on I-70 in Riley County, three miles east of the K177 junction, around 9 a.m. Tuesday. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Halston Puett, 20, was driving west when he hit a tractor pulling a mower on the north shoulder.

The KDOT employee was not hurt, but "pretty shook up," according to Kansas First News. The mower was heavily damaged.

Authorities closed one lane of I-70 for several hours to clear the scene. The cause remains under investigation.
