SHERMAN COUNTY, Kan. -

A driver suffered minor injuries after his semi struck a bridge, starting a fire.

It happened on I-70, west of Goodland just after 8:30 a.m. Sunday. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Yerani Guelmes, 32 of Miami, drove his tractor trailer left of center, striking a guardrail. The vehicle then hit the concrete bridge, caught fire and came to rest in the passing lane facing westbound.

Guelmes was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. A firefighter responding to the scene was also transported for treatment.

Authorities closed westbound traffic for several hours to clear the scene. One lane of traffic has been opened as of Sunday afternoon.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
