A Wichita man has died after an apartment fire last week. Forty-two-year-old Brian Jones was taken to the hospital after a Fire at Eagle Creek Apartments.

He suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation. Fire investigations Captain Stewart Bevis said the fire was accidental due to careless smoking.

Bevis said it is the city's second fire related death this year.


Wichita fire investigators said a mother smelled smoke, walked into her son's apartment and found him with critical

injuries after an apartment fire. No one else was injured.

It happened about 1:30 early Friday morning in the 9500 block of E. Lincoln.

Investigators believe careless smoking caused the fire. Damage was estimated at $15,000.

There was heavy damage to a living room recliner, but the man was found in another room.

A 38 year-old man was taken to Via Christi St. Francis for treatment of burns and smoke inhalation.
