WICHITA, Kan. -

A Wichita family is trying to turn their tragedy into something positive.

Cliff Davis was killed in a fire in January in the 100 block of west Zimmerly. You can see the original story here.

Investigators said there were no working smoke alarms in the home. Today, the Davis family donated about $1,400 to the Wichita Fire Department to purchase smoke detectors for anyone in the city that needs one.

Davis' niece sold bracelets at South High School to contribute to the fund.

"My uncle Cliff would be very proud to know that we're doing everything we can to spread the word about smoke alarm safety."

The fire department says they install smoke alarms almost every day in homes that don't have one.

The family hopes to donate to the fund every May.
