WICHITA, Kan. -

Wichita fire investigators are searching for a cause in a blaze that broke out in a south Wichita home.

The fire started in the basement of a home in the 2300 block of South Water around 5 a.m. Sunday. Six people were inside the home at the time, but managed to escape. One person was hospitalized for smoke inhalation.

Chief John Turner, Wichita Fire, reminded homeowners to make sure they have two escape routes in case of an emergency.

"If you don't have an escape window, you really shouldn't be sleeping downstairs," he said.

The damage estimate has not yet been released.
