One man is dead and another is hurt after a shooting in East Wichita early Saturday morning.
It happened just before 3 a.m. in the 900 block of South Cypress. Upon arrival officers saw more than a dozen people fleeing from a party in the neighborhood.
Wichita Police are searching for Ruben Higadera in connection. He is a 5'6' male weighing around 150 pounds with black hair. He should be considered armed and dangerous according to police. He's wanted on aggravated assault with a firearm, felony possession of a firearm and a felony warrant for probation violation.
One nearby resident said she's heard noise and commotion from parties at that home before, but in the past it had never gotten out of hand. She called police Friday night after hearing the gunshots.
"Then there was a a lot of screaming and carrying on and then I heard more further off in the distance like maybe they were returning fire," said neighbor Sherry Thatcher. "There was a number of shots."
One 20-year-old man was found in a nearby vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Another victim, a 17-year-old male, was found inside the home where the party was believed to be held. He suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was taken to a local hospital in serious condition but is expected to survive.
"Certainly we're going to want to track down as many, if not all of them to figure out what happened and what led up to this incident," said Sgt. Ron Hunt with the Wichita Police Department. "If anyone has video in regards to the situation, we would love to look at that."
The case is still under investigation. If you have any information about the crime or Higadera's location, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 267-2111 or WPD Homicide at (316) 268-4181.
