Police are searching for a man wanted in connection to a hit and run accident in southwest Wichita, and then abandoning his child in the street.

It happened in the 2500 block of west Anita, around 9 p.m. Wednesday. Police said a vehicle was stopped in the southbound lanes of Meridian, preparing to turn into a private drive. A second vehicle rear-ended the turning vehicle.

The driver of the second car got out of the vehicle, took a 1-year-old girl in a carrier out of the car, then ran away. The child was not hurt, and released into her mother's custody.

The driver in the first vehicle was not hurt.

Police said the man did have custody rights at the time of the incident. The man faces possible hit and run and child endangerment charges.
