WICHITA, Kan. -

A man who was arrested in an attempt to blow up Wichita's Mid-Continent Airport had a criminal history there.

Terry Loewen, 58, faces three counts of terrorism in a suicide bomb plot at Mid-Continent Airport. He was arrested Friday morning after two unsuccessful attempts of using airport access to drive a car bomb onto the tarmac.

Loewen worked at the Hawker Beechcraft Services facility at Mid-Continent Airport, is alleged to have spent months developing a plan to use his airport access card to drive a van loaded with explosives to the terminal.

FactFinder 12 found Loewen was arrested at Mid-Continent for carrying a concealed weapon in 2009.

The charge of carrying a concealed weapon was handled through municipal court. He pleaded no contest and was found guilty.

It is unknown whether Loewen was an employee at the airport, or a passenger, at the time.
