Wichita firefighters rescued seven people from the apartment using ladders.  One person was taken to the hospital with critical smoke inhalation injuries.  A woman injured her ankle when she jumped from the balcony to escape the fire.

The cause of the fire was determined to be careless smoking, and damage estimates are around $200,000.
