More than 150 people have called 911 this week to report fireworks nuisances.
That's not enough of a strain on the system to cause dispatchers to open the county's fireworks hotline early, said dispatch director Kim Pennington.
The hotline will open at 6:30 Thursday evening and remain active until 3:00 am Friday. Hours are the same all weekend until 3:00 am Sunday.
According to the county, 377 calls were made to the hotline in 2012, the first year it was open. The number grew to 490 last year, Pennington said.
Even though many people are still dialing 911 for nuisance calls, dispatchers can quickly transfer them to the hotline and free up that emergency line.
The hotline number is: 316-290-1011.
