BUTLER COUNTY, Kan. -

A former Augusta Police officer convicted of child sex crimes has been ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

Jerry Ballinger returned to Butler County District Court Monday for a post-release hearing. He pleaded guilty to one count of attempted indecent liberties with a child last month.

The charges stem from an arrest last July. According to court documents, Ballinger was accused of having sex with a 14-year old girl on two separate occasions. In February, Ballinger made a deal with the State and agreed to plead guilty to one count of attempted aggravated indecent liberties with a child. That is a level five person felony.

Judge David Ricke, Butler County, sentenced Ballinger to probation and house arrest.

As terms of his sentenced, Ballinger is to have no unsupervised contact with any child under 16 years old, except for his own children. He is also ordered to pay for his victim's therapy, attorney fees and DNA tests.
