WICHITA, Kan. -

Every co-worker of Cody Kitzke said the same thing. When the 8th grade science teacher at Hadley Middle School died, they said students lost a great teacher.

Kitzke's wife said he hadn't been feeling well this week but she thought he was getting better. Then on Thursday his condition got much worse. Kitzke went to the hospital where he died.

Students shared messages of condolence on Facebook and Twitter. One student wrote and posted a song on YouTube in honor or his teacher.

Stephanie Hayes worked with Kitzke this last summer where he volunteered at the Trio Talent Search, a program at Wichita State that empowers disadvantaged youth.

"Mr. K had a way of connecting with students like not many others could," Hayes said.

Kitzke's family is still waiting to hear exactly how their loved one died.
