Wichita police are looking for a man they say shot another man in the face Tuesday night in the 2200 block of N. Piatt.
Police say the victim was in his bed when another man broke into the home and shot him in the face.
Neighbor Stevie Moon said her daughter woke up to the shots.
"She said she heard two big bangs around 10:30 and 11 at night and she said she heard someone talking and then she heard the car start like he was maybe driving himself to the hospital," Moon said.
Varnell Luster said he heard the car, too.
"I woke up and heard a car drive off and then I went back to bed and then saw cops everywhere," Luster said.
Police said the victim grabbed his nine-year-old son and drove himself to Wesley Medical Center.
The victim told police he did not recognize the suspect. Investigators are still not sure what kind of gun was used.
"It could have been us, it could have been here, it could have been anyone," said Moon.
Luster said they looked like a typical family.
"He takes his son to play football, and to practice and stuff, they are pretty quiet over there," Luster said. "They play out there with the dog."
The victim's nine-year-old is now in protective custody.
