HUTCHINSON, Kan. -

Police arrested a Hutchinson woman who says she intentionally set fire to her home to kill a spider.  Crews were called to the home in the 100 block of W. 7th Avenue at around 1:30 Friday morning.

Ginny Griffith, 34, was taken into custody on aggravated arson charges.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found light smoke coming from one side of the duplex. Further investigation revealed that some clothing was smoldering inside the door.

Firefighters found several points of origin for the fire in the home. They determined the fire was intentionally set and police arrested Griffith.

A police summary of the incident says the Griffith told officers she used a cigarette lighter to ignite some towels to kill a spider, according to the associated press.

Crews made quick work of the fire and there was only minor smoke damage to the building.

No one was hurt but since occupants were present in the other side of the duplex, Griffith faces aggravated arson charges.
