Sunflower Broadcasting offers a year-round college internship program for students with career goals in broadcasting and communications with emphasis in news, sales, marketing, production, digital/web, weather and sports. Sunflower also has internship opportunities with our Spanish-language station, KDCU, in news, production, sales and marketing.
The aim of the internship program is to expose students to the daily demands and challenges of a commercial broadcasting operation. Internships will be "hands-on" and tailored to individual interests, training and talents.
Assignments will likely include the following, but are not limited to: contributing and researching story ideas; updating website content; scheduling and booking guests; writing stories.
Although the duration varies, the typical internship is 6-12 weeks.
In the newsroom, we offer paid internships in news and sports. We offer part-time paid internships at minimum wage in the fall and spring at approximately 20 hours per week. In the summer, these are eight-week full-time internships at 40 hours per week. The paid news internships are designed for those who wish to pursue newscast producing as a career. Starting in the summer of 2016,there will also be one, paid multi-media journalist internship. Again, this is paid at minimum wage and 40 hours a week. The paid sports internships are for on-air or off-air students who want to work in sports.’
There are also internships available for credit hours. These internships can be in news, newscast production, commercial production, digital/web, weather, sports, sales and marketing. All unpaid internships must be for university/college credit- no exceptions.
