WICHITA, Kan. -

A long-standing piece of Wichita history came down Friday morning.

Workers removed the sign in front of Joyland amusement park.

The park closed in 2006. Since then, several individuals and groups have tried to revive and re-open the park, but none have prevailed.

Joyland has been robbed, vandalized and set on fire since shutting down. Many of its pieces have been destroyed or sold-off.

The Nelson Family, which owns Joyland, donated the park's merry-go-round to Botanica. The merry-go-round will go in the Downing Children's Garden once it is restored.

For now, the Joyland sign will be put into storage.
