WICHITA, Kan. -

Investigators are looking into what caused a vacant home in south Wichita to explode overnight.

Crews were called to the home in the 1500 block of South Handley around 11 p.m. Thursday. Firefighters arrived to find the home blown off its foundation, and debris about 50 ft. into the yard. Neighbors tell Eyewitness News the blast blew out windows in a nearby home.

Kansas Gas authorities are assisting with the investigation, although utilities to the home should have been turned off. Officials believe an unknown combustible gas in the structure was ignited.

A fire started inside the home several hours later.
