The Kansas Lottery is getting a jump on the holiday season this year. Sales for its Holiday Millionaire Raffle will begin September 5. That's about a month ahead of last year's start date. The move allows the lottery to sell tickets during the Kansas State Fair.
This is the sixth year for the raffle, which has sold out every time. Only 175,000 tickets will be sold at $20 each. The lottery will then draw for a top prize of one million dollars on December 31.
In addition to the $1 million top prize, there are more than 7,500 other prizes.
The Kansas Lottery is offering Early Bird drawings, giving players who purchase tickets early a chance to win $10,000 in each drawing. Two $10,000 winning numbers will be drawn in each of five Early Bird drawings to be held October 12, 19 and 26, and November 2 and 9.
The raffle also features 5,000 $50 Bonus Cash prizes. Winners will automatically get $50 when purchasing the raffle ticket.
The rest of the prizes will be drawn on December 31. Here's how the prizes break down:
Grand Prize Drawing (Dec. 31)
1 - $1,000,000 winner
25 - $5,000 winners
25 - $1,000 winners
2,500 - $100 winners
Bonus Cash Instant Win Prizes** (Sept. 5 until end of business Dec. 30 or sell-out, whichever comes first)
5,000 - $50 winners
Early Bird Prizes (Oct. 12, 19, 26 and Nov. 2 and 9
10 - $10,000 winners (2 winners in each drawing)
The Kansas Lottery says tickets that win Early Bird prizes are still eligible for all of the drawings on December 31. It is possible, the lottery says, for the same ticket to win all five Early Bird drawings and the $1 million grand prize.
Tickets sold after the final Early Bird drawings will only be eligible for raffle prizes drawn December 31, 2014.
