KCC approves high-transmission power line
The Kansas Corporation Commission has voted unanimously to approve a high-power transmission line through Kansas and Missouri.
The Grain Belt Express proposal would cross 13 Kansas Counties. It would run from Ford County 350 miles northeast to the Missouri border. The transmission line would enable wind generators to export power to eastern states.
The KCC said the project will create more than 2,300 jobs in Kansas during construction. It is expected to bring in 135 jobs for operation.
The project must still be approved by utility commissions in Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana.
