Marijuana possession remains illegal in the state of Kansas.

That's the message from Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt. His office released a statement Tuesday as authorities continue to seize marijuana purchased in Colorado.

Colorado legalized marijuana the first of the year, and has seen an increase in tourism.

The Reno County crime reduction initiative coalition echoed Schmidt's statement during a meeting Tuesday night. A panel of local authorities and high school students discussed issues surrounding the drug, and solutions.

The group did not discuss medical marijuana, a bill that has been introduced in the Kansas statehouse. The measure has not had any hearings.
