LAWRENCE, Kan. -

A Lawrence man is in a Kansas City-area hospital after an officer-involved shooting overnight.

It happened at a home near Harvard and Kasold around 12:30 a.m. Sunday. Officers were called to a shots fired disturbance, and arrived to find an armed 24-year-old man. During the encounter, the officer discharged his firearm, striking the man four times in the groin area.

He was flown to a Kansas City hospital for treatment where he is listed in stable condition. No one else was hurt.

KCTV reports the 24-year-old man had been out celebrating his birthday at a Lawrence bar, and his father said his son came home drunk. The two got into a dispute before police were called to the home.

The Douglass County Sheriff's Department is assisting with the investigation. Two Lawrence Police officers are on paid administrative leave, per department policy.

No names have been released.
