LUCAS, Kan. -

A city employee died Wednesday while working to install a security light in the town of Lucas.

The mayor, Jennifer Bates says the accident happened on South Wolf Avenue in Lucas. He was doing electric work when he was injured.The 65-year-old  man was rushed to the Russell County Hospital where he later died. She said they were following protocol.

The mayor says the death hit the town of under 400 people hard.

"This tragic accident, that's happened in Lucas, had affected not only our city base, because he was a valued city employee, but also affected our community as a whole," Bates said.

Bates says the town has reached out to the Department of Labor to investigate the accident. She also says the cause of the death is uncertain. They haven't released a name yet.
