Students in the Maize and Arkansas City school districts are adding time to the end of their school days to make up for time lost to weather-related cancellations.
Maize will add 5 extra minutes to the end of their school day to make up for time students had off in February. The extra 5 minutes will last until the end of the year.
Kansas law requires students to meet a minimum number of hours each year. This will help districts that used more snow days than planned to meet those requirements.
Starting today, Arkansas City Elementary and Middle School students will be dismissed at 3:25 p.m. That is 10 minutes later than normal dismissal time.
