PRATT, Kan. -

A Pratt man has been charged in the death of an infant girl.

Joseph Sponaugle made his first appearance in a Pratt County courtroom Wednesday.

Sponaugle was arrested on Tuesday for first-degree murder, child abuse. He was also charged with child endangerment of another child.

Robert Sponaugle, Joseph's father, said his granddaughter, Aurora, died as the result of an accident.

"Joey had changed the baby's diaper and got a bottle and was taking her to put her in the crib and he tripped on the furniture and the baby hit the floor, head first," Robert said.

Sponaugle's bond has been set at $1 million cash or surety. His next date in court has not yet been set.
