Augusta authorities have released the name of the man who drowned on Sunday in Santa Fe Lake.

They say 47-year-old Tinajera Campos was swimming with some friends when he began to gag and went under the water.

When emergency crews arrived on the scene, Campos had been found and was being drug to shore.

Lifesaving efforts were initiated. Campos was taken to Kansas Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities say it is believed Campos was underwater for about four minutes.


Butler County authorities are investigating a drowning at Santa Fe Lake.

Crews responded to the scene west of Augusta just before 8 p.m. Sunday. Dispatchers said a 46-year-old man was pulled from the water not breathing. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The man's name has not been released.

More details are expected to be released Monday.
