WICHITA, Kan. -

Wichita Police have arrested a man accused of getting into a fight with his wife, and punching his young child in the face.

It happened in the 3200 block of south Victoria around 10:30 p.m. Friday. Police said a 36-year-old man came over to the home, got into an argument with his 33-year-old wife, and shook her. The man then struck a 1-year-old boy in the face, police said. He left the home, and was arrested at another location.

The child was taken to St. Joseph hospital, then transferred to St. Francis for treatment.

Three other children, girls ranging in age between 9 and 11 years old, were removed from the home due to living conditions, police said.

A neighbor, who identified herself as Jennifer and a friend of the victim, told Eyewitness News the father did not hit his son. She said the father was intoxicated, tripped over a chair, and the chair hit the baby in the face. She said the witness did not see what happened.

"All he saw was a little boy with a bloody nose," Jennifer said.

She said the woman had filed papers for divorce, and the man has not been living at the home. He arrived at the house to visit his son, then an argument ensued.

The suspect remains jailed on $25,000 bond. He is being held on aggravated child endangerment, battery, transporting an open container, marijuana possession and resisting arrest.
