A Hutchinson man was sentenced Monday to more than 21 years in prison for the attempted first-degree murder of the Reno County district attorney.

Michael Sherman, 27, was sentenced to 253 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections by District Judge Trish Rose.

In June, a Reno County jury convicted Sherman of attempted first-degree murder.

Judge Rose ordered the sentence to run consecutive to Sherman’s previous sentence of 165 months in prison for aggravated criminal sodomy.

The charge stemmed from an incident in July 2013 when Sherman attacked Reno County District Attorney Keith Schroeder during a court hearing.
