BARTON COUNTY, Kan. -

A man was seriously hurt over the weekend when he hit a deer while riding his motorcycle near Cheyenne Bottoms.

The accident happened on Friday at 7:40 p.m. in the 900 block of Northeast 100 Avenue.

The Barton County Sheriff's Office said George Goddard, 63, of Hoisington struck a deer as it ran out of a cornfield. He then lost control of the motorcycle and slid it 165 feet before coming to rest.

The sheriff's office said Goddard was not wearing a helmet.

He was taken to the Hoisington Hospital with injuries to his head and lower body. He was later transferred to Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita in stable condition.
